Italian Grapes — Californian Terroir

Friends and wine enthusiasts William (Bill) Cassata and Lane Harper were captivated by the distinct flavors and vibrant energy of wines from Sicily, Sardinia, and Santorini, yet surprised by how rare these varieties were in California, a region with the perfect climate and soils to let them thrive. In founding their eponymous wine company, Bill and Lane set out to discover the potential of grapes like Nero d'Avola, Carricante, Frappato, and Vermentino, partnering with and sourcing their fruit from exceptional vineyards throughout the state.

The result is a collection of bright, distinctive wines, true to the character of each variety yet also expressive of a uniquely Californian energy. After seven years of focusing exclusively on Italian-made Italian wines, Five Flights is delighted to feature William Lane Wine Company’s Vermentino and Rosé from the Alder Springs Vineyard in Mendocino County, and their Carricante from Centennial Mountain Vineyard in northern Sonoma County.
